A team of four
MFA graduates, including myself, Yasmeen Suleiman, Noha Fouad and Wajiha Pervez worked on a proposal that outlined our vision for the
future of Tasmeem Doha as co-chairs (2019 edition). Tasmeem Doha is an international, biennial art and design conference hosted and organized by VCUarts Qatar since 2004. Each edition of Tasmeem Doha highlights a unique and contemporary theme within art and design, exploring novel concepts, methods, and applications, and engaging in critical discussions.
After our proposal was accepted, we focused on developing the curatorial aspects of the initiative. We created a space allowing the VCU community and the public to come together throughout the year to share stories about their creative processes and failures, generating content that could be documented and disseminated later. Additionally, we collaborated with all departments at VCUarts Qatar to engage the entire community in various activities, such as guest affairs, internship programs, in-classroom activities, Students’ led workshops, Tasmeem Merchandise, off and on campus exhibitions.
